Student FAQs

I forgot my Student Handbook ...

Please tell your Form Tutor and collect a Student Handbook sheet from Student Reception. You are expected to have your Student Handbook with you at all times! Replacement handbooks cost £3.00 and can be purchased at Student Reception.

I lose an item of clothing ...

It is your responsibility to look for the missing item. Make sure you retrace your steps to see if you can find the item yourself. If not, check with the Academy Office to see if the lost item has been handed in. All items should have your name clearly stated on them as this will make it much easier to retrieve them should they be lost. It is advisable to use a locker.

I am absent ...

Your parents or carers need to telephone the Student Absence Line on 01953 450340 before 08.30. When you return to school, your parents or carers must write a letter or sign a note in your Student Handbook explaining the reason for your absence. This must be shown to your Form Tutor on the day you return to the Academy. Aim for 100% attendance!

I am in incorrect uniform ...

You must register with your Form Tutor in the morning. If you are in incorrect uniform, your Form Tutor will add your name to the Uniform Spreadsheet and you will need to report to Mobile 11 to see Mr Martin who will issue you with a Uniform Pass. You will receive a 'U' symbol unless you have a note from your parents or carers.

I'm being bullied or picked on ...

If you feel that you are being bullied, you must tell your Form Tutor, or a Student Support Mentor or any member of staff straight away. You can also find more advice in the Academy’s Anti-Bullying Policy (this can be found on pages 13-14 of the Student Handbook).

I have not done my extension work (previously known as homework) ...

Tell your subject teacher straight away – do not wait to be asked. There may be consequences.

I am having problems ...

Please make sure you either see your Form Tutor or a Student Support Mentor or any member of staff you feel you can talk to. You can also speak to any Prefect. There will be one in your form and you can identify them by their Prefect tie.

I lose a book that I have borrowed from the school Library

Please make sure you go to see the Librarian, Mrs Peat, as soon as you realise that it is missing. It is far better to tell her straight away than to do nothing and hope that she will never know.

I miss my bus to school or home from the school

If you miss your bus in the morning (make sure it has really gone and not just running late), go straight home and see if a member of your family can bring you to the Academy. It is your responsibility to get to the Academy. Phone the school to explain what has happened.

If you arrive later than 08.40 you will need to sign in at the late gate (the entrance foyer opposite the Main Hall). If you are later than 09.00, you will need to sign in at Main Reception.

If you miss the bus home, please go to the Main Office as soon as possible.
