Financial Support

Once a student leaves Year 11, the financial support available changes. Read on to find out more about the financial support available to students at our Sixth Form.

Free School Meals

Students in Sixth Form continue to be eligible to receive free school meals if you or they are in receipt of one of the following:

  • Universal Credit - with an annual earned income of no more than £7,400 after tax
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual gross income of no more than £16,190

To apply for free school meals for the first time, you will need to create an account with Norfolk County Council and apply here: Free school meals - Norfolk County Council. Students who join the Sixth Form from other schools and academies will automatically receive free school meals once their destination is updated by their previous school. To avoid a gap in the provision of free meals, please inform us if you are eligible for free school meals when you enrol.

16-19 Bursary

Once a student leaves Year 11, 'Pupil Premium' funding support ends and is replaced by the 16-19 Bursary. There are two types of bursary; the discretionary bursary and the statutory bursary. The statutory bursary is for students who are classed as ‘in-care’ or as ‘care leavers’, or who are living independently and receiving Universal Credit in their own name - if this applies to you, please make sure you inform us when you enrol so that we can support you in applying. The discretionary bursary is awarded on a needs-basis, and determining eligibility is more complex. However, if your household income is below £30,000 per year, then you should have a discussion with us at your enrolment about whether you are eligible.

The purpose of the bursary is to support you in accessing education. In the majority of cases, this will mean the provision of benefits in kind; such as revision guides and textbooks, calculators or required equipment, to pay for curriculum and required trips and visits, transport to and from Sixth Form, or equipment to enable to you work both at Sixth Form and at home such as a laptop.
