Welcome to the Summer 2022 edition of the Academy Times

Posted on 21st Jul 2022

Welcome to the Summer 2022 edition of the Academy Times and the last one of this academic year.

In reflecting on this year, it really has been a ‘recovery’ year where we have been putting the school back after having year groups separated in bubbles and building back even better. In my final Academy assemblies of the term, I have been telling students how proud I have been of them for taking such things as ‘in-school’ LFD testing and Covid vaccinations in their stride and just getting back to making progress in their learning and enjoying being able to socialise with their friends.

I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of all of our staff. Staff have embraced all new expectations without fuss or reluctance and been dedicated to getting students fully back on track after their time in remote learning. Staff have also ‘gone the extra mile’ and started to arrange more and more extra-curricular activities as the restrictions have been released and many of those are reported in this edition.

Due to the school being able to come back together this year, it was great to hold our annual Sports Day. Well done to Kett House who won Sports Day and particular congratulations to Cavell House who won the overall Olympiad this year. It has also been a real pleasure for us to be able to make the arrangements for our Year 11 Prom and Sixth Form Formal events to take place. Those parents and carers who have seen older children pass through their final years at Attleborough will know that these celebratory events are incredibly proud moments for those of us who have shared their child’s educational journey with them. Both Year 11 and Year 13 cohorts should be congratulated in recognition of the incredibly hard circumstances in which they have completed their educational journey this year and we are glad that we could celebrate their achievements in style.

At the end of this term, we will see Mrs Akroyd, Mr Bennett, Mrs Burnell, Mrs Caddamy, Mrs Covington and Miss Murray leaving the Academy. On behalf of fellow colleagues and students, we express our deepest thanks to them all for their dedication and hard work. We shall miss them all.

I wish you all a relaxing Summer break with your family and friends.

Let’s hope the sun continues to shine!
