Whilst the Academy remains open only to a handful of students, the Design and Technology Department have gone out of their way to help frontline workers in need by producing PPE.
A huge thank you to Mr Mike Kent, who has used his expertise and skill to produce polypropylene visors, designed to maximise protection from infection. During the last weeks Mr Kent has regularly travelled into the Academy from home and has produced over 150 visors using the department’s technical equipment. He has been supported by our D & T Technician Mr Simon Ward.
We have now begun to distribute the superb visors to groups in our local community who are putting their lives at risk as they carry out their jobs caring for the vulnerable. At the end of April 2020, the visors were gratefully received by the Wymondham’s district nursing team, Fairlands House Care Home in Attleborough and Wymondham Community Help Point.
For all these workers that give so much to help others– at Fairlands House, four members of staff including the manageress have left their homes and families to live full time at the Care Home to protect the elderly residents – the Academy is pleased to play a part in helping to support their wonderful work, by creating this additional protection.
If any organisation or individual has polypropylene of approx. 1mm thickness that they are can donate to Mr Kent so that he is able to create more visors – please email firstname.lastname@example.org F.A.O Mrs McConnell
