10/6/2020 – Update to parents of year 10 and 12 students
Dear Parents and Carers
I hope this update finds you safe and well
We have now officially transferred to the Sapientia Education Trust which has heralded a new era for our school. It is certainly one that we will never be able to forget as it has started in lockdown and like all other major events 2020 will be certainly be remembered as a very significant year!
The new trust have already been supporting us in our next challenge which is to meet the Governments ambition to open wider for some year 10 and year 12 students. The government have stated their ambition, “that secondary pupils facing exams next year will get some face-to-face support from their teachers this term, subject to the government’s 5 tests being met”.
We have therefore been wading through the realms of Health and Safety guidance and planning in situ in school to try to make this wider opening the safest it can be for our staff and selected Y10 and Y12 students.
The Government have stated that, “We are asking secondary schools to offer this face-to-face support to supplement the remote education of year 10 and year 12 pupils, which should remain the predominant mode of education during this term for pupils in these year groups. Our assessment, based on the latest scientific and medical advice, is that we need to continue to control the numbers attending school to reduce the risk of increasing transmission”.
It is clear therefore that the expectation is for online learning to remain as the main mode for students to learn for now and so we will be looking at how we can improve and develop this to make it even more effective.
We will be inviting some selected students in Y10 and y12 into school to meet the Government’s expectation to provide, “some face-to-face support to supplement the remote education of year 10 and year 12 pupils, with a clear expectation that remote education will continue to be the predominant form of education delivery for these year groups” as well as providing full time support for vulnerable children and the children of key workers. We will send out further more detailed information tomorrow to the parents of year 10 and year 12 students.
I have attached the current plan for all year groups to clarify the present position. I realise I keep saying this but genuinely – thank you. Thank you again for all you are doing to assist with home online learning. I fully realise that many parents are not professional teachers and may well feel a sense of dread or anxiety at being asked to help your son or daughter with their learning, particularly when you are having to balance this with all the other demands on your home life in lockdown. So please don’t hesitate to contact staff for clarification or support on any work they set. We are here to support you too. Also, if there is anything you feel we need to know about the well-being of your child as lockdown continues then please do contact Miss Parks on email@example.com. If you are a Key Worker and need to access our childcare provision, then Miss Parks is also the first contact.
