At Attleborough Academy, we educate the whole child. It isn’t just about exam results. We looked what what business wanted from their future workforce and decided on five transferable skills, or mindsets, that we aim to instil in our students. They create a mantra: “An Attleborough Student Is”. Within lessons, through our house system and in extra-curricular activities, students are encouraged and rewarded for showing the following skills.
Inspired and Aspirational
Students can demonstrate this by having a thirst to take their education further; by completing extension work, by going above and beyond the minimum asked for them and completing DIT (Dedicated Improvement Time) work by responding to feedback from teachers. Students can also attend extra-curricular clubs, reading around the subject or showing outstanding commitment to an interest.
Proud and Responsible
Students can demonstrate this by taking on responsibility to help support the learning environment and school as a whole; by taking and showing pride in in their work, either in the way is is presented or the contributions they made in lesson. Also in taking responsibility to help others, by contributing to Academy Council, conduct during non-teaching times and positively contributing to Academy life
Resilient and Tenacious
Students can demonstrate this by never giving up; very often, things do not happen straight away, and students should be prepared to persistently try hard when faced with set backs. This could improve trying new approaches, problem solving, asking others, and displaying a Growth Mindset - the belief that intelligence can be grown.
