Special Educational Needs
At Attleborough Academy, we recognise that every child is special and unique. We are committed to working together with all members of our community to provide the best possible education for the students in our care. Our staff are passionate and committed to meeting the needs of all our children and strive to break down any barriers that are preventing children from making the progress they are capable of.
As a school, we recognise the importance of not only supporting children's academic progress but also developing their behavioural, emotional and social skills to enable them to be confident, independant learners and being the best they can be.

SEND Code of Practice
This Code of Practice provides statutory guidance on duties, policies and procedures relating to Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014 and associated regulations and applies to England. It relates to children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and disabled children and young people. A ‘young person’ in this context is a person over compulsory school age and under 25. Please use the link below to access this document.
As part of SEND legislation, Local Duties have a duty to publish a Local Offer setting out, in one place, information about the provision available in their area across education, health and social care for vulnerable children and young people. Please click here for more information about the Norfolk County Council SEND Offer.
Norfolk County Council provides a good outline of what happens if a child or young person is having difficulties with their learning. Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) may need extra help to enable them to learn and make progress in their learning alongside other children of the same age. This is known as SEN Support. Please click on the link below to find out more.

We have partnered with Norfolk County Council’s TITAN (Travel Independence Training across Norfolk) team and are currently delivering the Ready to Go! travel training programme to our students. TITAN offers young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support to help them to become confident independent travellers.
The Ready to Go! programme is a flexible framework for students from Year 7 onwards and teaches six core modules:
- Pedestrian Skills
- Communication Skills
- Personal Health, Safety and Wellbeing
- Problem-Solving Skills
- Journey Planning Skills
- Journey Practice Skills
The skills that the TITAN training provides have a holistic, positive impact across the whole of the young person’s life. Once completed, TITAN can support our students to transition to independently travelling to and from school or college, where appropriate.
