Photography

We are delighted to offer Photography as a subject at our school from year 10 onwards, providing students with the opportunity to develop their creativity, imagination, and visual language through the lens. We understand that the young people who join us at sixth form are at a critical stage of their artistic and cognitive development. The Photography curriculum has been carefully designed to help learners navigate this stage, building both technical confidence and creative independence so they can thrive.

Our aim is to provide all learners with the knowledge and competencies needed to appreciate the world around them, to explore a variety of photographic and artistic approaches, and to communicate their own perspectives through a range of processes. Underpinned by research into artistic development, the course is structured and sequenced to ensure students revisit and refine core themes and technical skills, enabling them to know more, remember more, and make increasingly informed and effective choices about their work.

Schemes of Learning incorporate both traditional and contemporary practices, giving students the opportunity to develop digital and technical fluency while also understanding Photography’s role in history, culture, and society. Through workshops, independent projects, and engagement with both historical and contemporary photographers, learners are encouraged to experiment, innovate, and critically reflect on their practice.

We know that a high-quality Photography education engages, inspires, and challenges, equipping students with the skills and confidence to create ambitious, sustained, and personal outcomes. Ultimately, the Photography staff at Attleborough Academy aim to provide a learning environment where students can develop an aesthetic appreciation of the world around them, build a critical understanding of visual culture, and take pride in producing their own creative and meaningful work.
