Year 7 - Update from Mrs Cushing

Posted on 10th Mar 2022

Wow, half a year has gone by already and it is so lovely to see how well Year 7 have settled into everyday life at Attleborough Academy. They all seemed to grow a foot over the summer as I hardly recognised them as they donned their smart new Academy uniform on their first day. With timetables poised and maps at the ready it didn’t take them long to find their way around campus and create their own routines.

We have seen lots of excellent work develop over the last two terms from dippy divers to handmade castles, from fantasy landscapes to fantastic photo frames, from twisted tales to Shakespearean witches. I am excited to see what this next half year brings.

We have handed an exceptionally high number of PRIDES, subject awards with badges and for the Autumn term 46 of our Year 7 students received a secret mission invite. Here in the secret assembly, Mr McShane congratulated them. Then I had the absolute pleasure of awarding them a certificate (and sweets) for being PURPLE on RAG-P. Not only does this factor in behaviour and attendance of the individual, but also their attitude to learning in each subject. For a third of the year group, that is a truly fantastic achievement. How many of them will maintain this status for the remainder of this term and then the Summer term? If they can, then those students will be rewarded with a trip!

It is fantastic to see so many Year 7 students representing competitions that build into the school Olympiad too with each one representing their house, and at times the school, in sporting fixtures. Keep up the excellent work Year 7 - I am one proud Progress Leader.
