British Biology Olympiad
Posted on 25th Jun 2025During the Spring and Summer terms, 70 of our Year 10 students and our Year 12 and 13 A level Biologists took part in a national competition hosted by United Kingdom Biology Competitions (UKBC). The charity delivers three high-quality competitions each year, for over 60,000 student competitors.
The British Biology Olympiad (BBO) challenges and stimulates students with an interest in biology to expand and extend their skills. It enables students to demonstrate their talent and to be suitably rewarded with publicly recognised certificates.
The students completed online exams, covering topics and ideas that they were not familiar with, ensuring that they competed with their problem-solving skills and understanding of core principles.
All our students did Attleborough Academy and the Sixth Form proud by achieving grades from Participation through to Silver Award. Our Year 10 students competed against over 40,000 students nationally, with 2 of our students achieving a Bronze Award (only 15% of competitors achieved this), and 1 student achieving a Silver Award (only 10% of competitors achieved this).
Our Year 12 students competed against over 17,000 students nationally, with 2 of our students achieving a Bronze Award (only 15% of competitors achieved this), and 4 students achieving a Silver Award (only 10% of competitors achieved this).
Our Year 13 students competed against over 18,000 students nationally, with 1 of our students achieving a Bronze Award (only 15% of competitors achieved this), and 1 student achieving a Silver Award (only 10% of competitors achieved this).
Everyone who took part also earned themselves free BioNet membership of the Royal Society of Biology for one year.
Well done to every competitor!
