Careers Week March 2022

Posted on 25th May 2022

To mark National Careers Week (7-11 March), students in Years 9 & 10 took part in a range of careers-related talks and visits. Across the week, all Year 10 students attended a variety of virtual careers talks from a range of organisations and providers. On Monday, the Norfolk County Council Apprenticeship Team introduced what apprenticeships are and how to find them, then a Sergeant from the RAF gave an insight into life in the armed forces. Tuesday saw Norwich University of the Arts outreach talk about courses and careers in the creative sector and then students had an interactive session with Marsh, the insurance broker and risk advisor. Students were given a number of ‘real-life’ scenarios and had to work out what the financial risk of each of these might be. Finally, on Friday, students found out about what it is like to work at Banham Zoo and then the range of jobs available in the NHS from the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital Skills Academy.

In addition to these sessions, around 100 students in Years 9 & 10 had the opportunity to visit the Norfolk & Suffolk Skills and Careers Festival at the Norfolk Showground. They spent time looking at the various exhibits, talking to lots of employers and further education providers and having a go at some of the hands-on activities, from holding a snake to ‘driving’ machinery!
