Year 10 Norwich Castle Visit

Posted on 11th Feb 2026

The History department are very happy to have organised and led an extremely successful GCSE trip to Norwich Castle in February.

Our trip took our Year 10 students on a medicine through time revision day. A great time was had by all as we met a Medieval nun who talked to us about treatments for the dreaded Black Death and we got the opportunity to act a few out! We also met a Renaissance plague doctor in full costume who led us in an investigation into 17th century cures - most of which were quite smelly!

We followed this up with a talk by a 19th Century surgeon and handled some real objects from this time and watched a mock surgery take place.

Finally, we met a modern GP who spoke about some of the most important changes in our own time and careers in medicine before letting our students use their knowledge on some case studies.

All the session leads commented afterwards how delightful our students were; being knowledgeable, engaged and inspired in their learning and after a hectic schedule of revision, we had just enough time left to explore the magnificent and newly opened medieval keep – lots of us were impressed with the 41m well and King’s throne.
