Year 7 STEM Activity

Posted on 30th Oct 2023

On Tuesday 10 October, STEMPoint East came into school to do a workshop with the whole of Year 7 on wind turbines. With renewable forms of energy being a major part of the strategy to help the UK become carbon neutral by 2050, the energy sector needs more engineers and budding scientists to work in the industry.

During the workshop, Year 7 students got the chance to work with real engineers to build their own wind turbines. Lots of teamwork was required to complete the challenge. The turbines were tested in front of an electric fan and the designs refined to improve the speed at which the turbines turned. Many groups completed the challenge showing excellent engineering and problem-solving skills.
